In our inaugural exhibition '“Joan Charnley - Cut Grass, Lavender & Chanel No.5”, we explore the history of the Weavers Factory, Uppermill and its patron Joan Charnley.
About
Artist and lecturer John Hewitt creates a illustrative map of the village of Uppermill, while his illustration with Animation students from Manchester Metropolitan University respond to Charles Dickens’ visit to Saddleworth’s first ever art exhibition.
Landscape artist and Weavers Factory curator Julian Bovis puts together a collection of Joan’s un-seen drawings and paintings and creates new work on the subject of Joan’s love of travel.
On the top floor students from Oldham College of Further Education create and curate an exhibition inspired by the life, history and textile designs of Joan Charnley.
