'an idea that enlarges around the edges', by Jimena Croceri, is an online show and the wavering script for a deferred performance, which thinks and acts around waters and seas, sands and shores.

About

The work departs from the artist’s encounter with Barcelona’s re-invented coastlines, and with the many Mediterraneans they contain and confuse. Croceri approaches the notion of sea-border as polysemantic limit –sensorial and intellectual, political and individual– which always crosses a space of interaction and contradiction. Experiences of movement and identities that originate both inside and outside a single self, and the communities we make together, infiltrate this terrain of in-betweenness.

In order to manifest a state of constant elusion, Croceri composes a loose script, a string of instructions for the activation of gestures and thoughts that occupy unpredictable times and geographies. The script unfolds in the digital space like an unsettled book, whose pages are only partially hinged one to the other by conceptual and formal combinations of opacities and transparencies.

About the artist:

Jimena Croceri is a multimedia artist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Using both daily materials and naturally occurring elements, her work probes points of flexibility between gestures, rituals and performances.

Croceri’s live works and exhibitions have been hosted, among others, by MUNTREF Museum, Ming Contemporary Art Museum, Centro Cultural Kirchner, Piedras Gallery, Raven Row Gallery, Ausstellungsraum Klingental, Cabaret Voltaire, Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, Museum of Latin American Art, Faena Art Center, Sivori Museum, HFBK, Braque Prize. She participated in exchange residency programmes run by Pro-Helvetia, Bar Project Barcelona, Flora ars+natura Bogotà. In 2017 Croceri conducted field research in the Brazilian Amazon forest, thanks to a grant awarded by the Oxenford Collection. She was the 2020 recipient of Pernod Ricard Fellowship at Villa Vassilieff, Paris.
