Recent Work is the first European solo show by the San Francisco-based artist Jill Sylvia, whose meticulous handling of a razor blade turns old-fashioned ledger sheets into paper works of delicate precision. Sylvia methodically cuts the blank boxes from these printed grid sheets, originally intended to hold a handwritten record of financial transactions, and leaves behind the bare bones of the grid as a stark visual tally of time and effort. Highlights of her work from the past four years can be seen in this exhibition at 319 Portobello Road.
