Ian McIntyre - Artist Talk
23 Sep 2015
Plymouth College of Art
Plymouth, United Kingdom
Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturday 10am - 2pm
Launched in 2010, Jerwood Makers Open creates a space in which to recognise and promote the significance of making practices and processes within contemporary visual arts.
It seeks to support exceptional skill and imagination, offering makers at the early stages of their careers, an opportunity to develop their creative ideas independently of specific commissioning structures, and with substantial curatorial support. It looks broadly at how contemporary artists are defining or challenging the boundaries of what has traditionally been described as applied arts.
This year’s artists, selected from over 267 UKwide applicants, all combine a high level of technical skill with imagination and intellectual adventure, and these new works promise to take each practice in a fresh and exciting direction.
Each artist has received an award of £7,500 to realise significant new projects, whilst offering a rare opportunity for the artists to freely develop creative ideas central to their individual practices. The resulting commissions are presented in this nationally touring exhibition.
