Vesselroom Project presents Jauser-Baby, a solo exhibition by Dominik Steiner which will open on Thursday, 1st of October at 7 p.m. As unique collaboration with Berlin-based gallery Cruise&Callas*, a selection of his finest collages made between 2013 till today 2015 will be displayed.

Jauser-Baby is a playground for imagination. An invitation to enter the familiar and yet the unknown. In his collages, Steiner adds cut-outs from comic books, stickers and other pictorial material from a child´s world and trash culture in order to form new sceneries. Unsweetened combinations create unexpected narratives where the focus is on the process of making and becoming. The ease and speed of Steiner´s work is visible as a hybrid, as is a witty element. Collages serve as starting point where the artist takes inspiration from or they may disclose the premonitory idea behind a work not yet come into life. With the selection chosen for Vesselroom Project Steiner attempts to temporarily isolate this specific medium by highlighting its freedom in terms of creation. At the same time, the relation between line and surface is revealed which in turn is essential to his painting.

Dominik Steiner
(1981 Weiden, Germany) - Lives and works in Berlin

After his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Dominik Steiner moved to Berlin in 2006. Mainly a painter, his artistic practice finds expression also through drawing and collage, being the latter a steady component since 2012. All these three mediums are independent aspects of his oeuvre as well as interconnected and complementary to one another. Dominik Steiner had extensively exhibited in solo and within group shows in all major German cities and internationally.
