AboutTHE HEPSIBAH GALLERY is delighted to welcome JASON BRAHAM to the gallery and although this is his first show here he is a familiar face in the gallery (often curating his wife Julienne's sellout shows)
I am a fan and collector of his pots and jugs and so this review is made from a personal perspective as a collector not with my gallery owner's hat on.
I understand paintings...but I have only recently come round to liking studio pottery!...and so I feel it is definately an aquired taste...but I would also like to share my passion with you. Of course I may be preaching to the converted and if so I apologise.
Jason Braham is an artist, in fact he is a painter and a potter but the pieces I collect I use. The latest purchase was a jug which i use as a claret jug. It reminds me of Larkin's poetry ,of Sylvia Plath in photographs,of Edith Sitwell in profile ,of Under Milk Wood, it makes me feel a great sense of privilege and mixed with a sunny day in the garden I feel that Life is Beautiful....and all that from a pot!...by the way a painting by Roger Hilton I recently saw at Christies South Ken made me feel like that too (but I couldn't afford the painting!)
...And so come and see if you share my passion for this Studio Pottery and we can wax lyrical together over a jug filled with claret!
