AboutThe photographic works of Jasmina Cibic posit themselves as site-specific interventions where myths are fabricated in order to disrupt the normal flow of events. The spectator becomes a faux tourist and the artwork within its architectonical framework a souvenir object par excellence – it is namely a fetish of the Experience. These photographs are taken in airports, rural scenes and other locations in Slovenia creating for the viewer an experience of this landscape & society touched with an element of the surreal.
These beautiful printed photographic works are the result of carefully constructed scenes specific to Slovenia and more accurately Ljubljana. Slovenian artist Jasmina Cibic graduated from her MA at Goldsmiths College in 2006, to great acclaim, selected for an exhibition by a curator of Damien Hirst’s work. Cibic has shown widely in London, Venice & Slovenia, and currently has a solo exhibition at Galerija Ganes Pratt, Ljubljana. Cibic has shown with BEARSPACE at the Zoo Art Fair, and will be showing at Liste, Basel in June 2007.
