About

Jaroslav Róna is probably best known as the author of the highly acclaimed Franz Kafka memorial in the Old Town. In the 1980s, he was one of the founders of the art group Tvrdohlaví, or The Stubborn. The exhibition presents the artist’s drawings from 2012-2018. At the first glance, one might say that his style remains the same. However, he began to deal with new topics; one can catch a glimpse of stories behind his works as well as humour elements. He created most of his Drawings from Elsewhere when travelling and they represent a kind of a diary. Some of them were draught in Malta, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Venice, Milan, Amsterdam, Wien, Budapest. He was probably inspired by the local monuments; however, one can see that they were heavily influenced by the author’s fantasy and dark vision. They seem to appear miraculously, just while handling a pen or a pencil, revealing the hidden world of fantasy.
