GALERIE8 is pleased to present Soft Machine, the first UK solo exhibition of Polish-Canadian artist Jarek Piotrowski. Drawing themes from the subversive William S. Burroughs novel The Soft Machine, 1961, the work in this exhibition explores the human body under siege, rituals and institutions of control. Through paintings, cutouts, experimental music and live performance, Piotrowski folds in the past with the present, building up and dissolving patterns to address and expose constructed exteriors.
Extending the three-dimensionality of his cut-outs to create a grand site-specific installation, Piotrowski will explore the interactions of light and shadow, and the effect of space, in one of his most ambitious projects to date, that will not only push the physicality of the artist but the viewer's experience of their own physicality within the space.
