Galerie Suvi Lehtinen is pleased to present Hinter Winter, an exhibition of recent work by Janne Räisänen and his first solo exhibition at the gallery. The show will feature paintings and drawings by Räisänen and runs from March 01, 2012 to March 25, 2012.
Räisänen describes his new work's approach as a search for immediacy and more relaxed atmosphere traditionally associated with drawing. Having encountering obstacles in his painting process, Räisänen moved entirely to working on paper. After a proficient spell of drawing he felt it was possible to move towards synthesizing drawing and painting on canvas. The canvases and drawings included in this exhibition are products of this intersection, and a result of the conversation between Räisänen's paper and canvas, as well as forms and colors.
The titles of the works also play a crucial role in this conversation. They consist of word play, poetry, and the general aesthetic of bad jokes and confusing tangents. The juxtaposition of titles and visual riddles imbedded in the works create an alluring relationship between straightforward reading and visual interpretation.
Räisänen is a Finnish artist currently working in Berlin. He has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, Berlin, Helsinki and Paris among others, and has participated in numerous international group exhibitions, including the Carnegie Art Award, Based in Berlin and the Beijing Biennale.
