Jan Hendrickse - Sound Installation and Performance

About

An evening of improvised music compositions - Pyrophone ensemble and modified instruments performing with 'sound fields'. Curated by Jan Hendrickse featuring trumpet player Jim Howard. Jan Hendrickse has spent time onsite at John Jones, recording and analysing the sounds of production around our workshops he has created bespoke instruments in response to found materials. Jan will be holding a workshop exploring pyrophonic sounds. There are three pieces that make up a site-specific installation for the John Jones project space. The pieces are a response to the materials, the project space itself and the low frequency vibration that pervades the John Jones buildings. Jan has tried to reconfigure these elements to make three new interrelated pieces. The tubes that make up the three sound structures are designed to function as instruments to they also function as acoustic chambers. These recordings produce very low-pitched resonant drones, which have been recomposed and played back into the space through materials used on the site. Contact microphone recordings of the building vibrations have been combined with sine tones to produce very low frequency vibrations, which are felt rather than heard Jan will also be holding a sound workshop exploring ‘Sound Fields' This workshop will be held at John Jones 4pm 4 Morris Place N4 3JG Limited spaces available please RSVP samantha.watson-wood@johnjones.co.uk
