About
Informality is thrilled to announce renowned Australian sculptor, Jamie North'sfirst solo show in the UK. Inflection is a timely presentation of glass and
eroded concrete sculptural forms. Indicative of his critically acclaimed
sculptures combining industrial material and plant life, the glass terraria in
Inflection house specifically UK native plants. The emotive, site-specific
installation of a central eroded column encircled by impacted spherical terraria
is a shrewd synecdoche for the UK as a facet in our current global ecological
situation.
In his first UK exhibition North is sensibly adjusting his lens to consider the
UK’s particular implication on the climate crisis. By adopting indigenous plants
he asks us to contemplate our national contribution towards crossing the
ecological threshold. “The word ‘inflection’ speaks to the exhibition
primarily through its implication in the climate crisis; inflection point by
definition refers to a tipping point, the crossing of an ecological
threshold resulting in a shift toward a new systemic direction.” – Jamie North
