In this series, Jamie Nelson explores the power of heavy metal in all its facets—including its brilliance, rarity, structure and attitude. From rock and roll music to precious minerals, Jamie shines a light on the art of heavy metals, proving they have a life of their own.
About
For decades, gold and silver accoutrements have been staples of heavy metal music and fashion. Silver and gold are precious metals known for their glamour and durability. Rock and roll music, specifically heavy metal, is bold, rebellious, rare, and brilliant. Stage performers shine brightly, adorned with metal studs, chunky belts, glitter makeup, and sparkling metallic attire.
Despite their inherent rigid structure, heavy metals are compliant as they magically mold to the personality of their owners. From the diva to the grunge rocker, metals will forever make a unique statement on whomever is bold enough to adorn them.
Using her technical lighting skills, Jamie bounces light against metallic surfaces to illuminate her subjects. The artist covers her muses in gold and silver body paint and metallic embellishments, turning them into rock and roll art pieces.
Jamie proves that heavy metals are uniquely complex and multifaceted. Gold and silver metals exude glitz and glamour while remaining rebellious, strong and resilient—made for the fearless who are brave enough to shine.
