Printmaker Jamie Barnes is inspired by his explorations of coastal paths around Wales, Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland.
About
A curious set of accompanying sea structures started to appear in Jamie’s work, not only the obvious lighthouses but also the more unusual, such as orientation beacons, transmitters and glowering power stations.
Drawing underpins Jamie’s practice, with line drawing transformed through the magic of the aquatint etching process. He values etching for the quality of line it can produce, its depth of texture and for the random marks picked up by the process, which he often then chooses to preserve.
