One of Britain’s most promising and controversial young artists, James Mortimer displays his most recent paintings and a selection of sculpture works at Hampstead’s Catto Gallery
About
Mortimer, who has been described as Dutch master meets Oscar Wild meets Pete Doherty, has cultivated a unique and recognisable style and body of work presenting themes of debauchery and vice enriched by bird life, subtle colours, rich patterns and bizarre characters. This exhibition continues to develop themes of decadence and x-rated scene setting but with a more vivid use of colour and overall more violent subject matter.
The Bath based painter’s career highlights are impressive for an artist of his age, including multiple London exhibitions and The Kenneth Armitage Prize for Sculpture.
