About

JAMES MONNINGTON

James Monnington is a marine ecologist, freediver, and wildlife photographer. He travels the world exploring the ocean’s shallows, capturing the wildlife he comes across in striking black-and-white photographs. But it’s not just foreign waters he’s drawn to – James frequently dives off the coasts of his native Britain, playing with the wildlife around Cornwall and Wales.  His show will be made up of limited edition beautifully printed and framed dramatic black and white photographs taking you into the deep.

LIMINAL

Liminal is a collection of underwater photographs taken whilst freediving in the UK and beyond. The images, all rendered in black and white, celebrate the diversity of marine life found in our oceans, whilst portraying the surreal and, at times, intimidating nature of the boundary-world where the deep oceans meet the air. Captured in some of the worlds most pristine and protected waters, Liminal invites us to imagine a future in which marine life, freed from the impacts of human activities, abounds. The show will be made up of limited edition large-format framed prints that draw you into the ethereal deep.
