Contemporary sculptural arch by architect James Donegan inspired by the mathematical patterns found in nature.
About
SEED is an architectural structure designed by James Donegan and was the winning entry in a competition to create a temporary architectural feature for Manchester Craft and Design Centre. James’ elegant design is inspired by the mathematical patterns found in nature and strains upwards towards the light, reflecting the seasons.
The plywood structure has been designed and constructed using digital production methods by Fab Lab in Manchester. The piece was selected by a prestigious panel of judges from 26 entries. They were particularly impressed with the way SEED responded to the brief, considering quality, innovation and aesthetics alongside the constraints of the space.
20-21 Visual Arts Centre responded to a call from the Craft and Design Centre to house SEED after it was exhibited in Manchester, offering to give it a home in our sculpture courtyard during our shop and café renovation.
