Commissioned especially for Parasol unit's 10th Anniversary In celebration of its 10th Anniversary year, Parasol unit commissioned the American artist James Clar to create an outdoor work to explore the phenomenon of light. As a result, his extraordinary light sculpture ALL EVERYTHING, 2014, which represents new beginnings, history, and infinite potential, will illuminate the outdoor terrace at the foundation. ALL EVERYTHING embodies two extremes: the initial ‘Big Bang' that created the universe and the history of its continuing expansion. A large burst of light represents the Big Bang, with individual rays extending outwards in all directions — a metaphorical nano-moment suspended together with the history of ever-expanding space. Etched into the acrylic-tube light rays is a scaled timeline of the universe. For instance, at the end of one ray it is noted that human beings came into existence some 12.9 billion years after the Big Bang. Structurally, ALL EVERYTHING consists of two intersecting metal posts, each approximately four metres long, supported on a base stand. At their axis is a complex central system of spheres, about 25 cm in diameter, from which stem 180 acrylic-tube light rods, curving outwards. From this central group of spheres, 180 miniature, 1-watt, LED (light-emitting diodes) shoot light down each rod. The light rods, approximately 180 cm long and 2 cm in diameter, are etched with a scaled timeline of the universe.
