As part of our year celebrating sculpture, to mark the 60th anniversary of Jacob Epstein (1880-1959), we are incredibly fortunate to borrow this iconic Epstein masterpiece from the Tate collection to display in Walsall.
About
The masterpiece was carved in a single block of alabaster and weights almost 3 tones. It depicts a biblical story (Book of Genesis, Chapter 32, verses 24-32) in which Jacob was in the wars throughout the night with a stranger, who later revealed himself as an Angel.
