About

This first UK solo show of works by Stanya Kahn presents a selection of recent videos and drawings characterised by the artist's signature mixture of dark comedy, visceral characters and reluctant optimism. Whether made of flesh and blood, plastic or crumpled paper her character's struggle for success (or mere survival) in an absurd world is thrown into relief by the works underlying current of self deprecating and occasionally fragile humour. The exhibition includes the premiere of new video commission Who Do You Think You Are? which explores the idea of success through a monologue from a self-styled self help guru. Other highlights include It's Cool, I'm Good, which features the artist as a heavily bandaged tragicomic hero, and Arms Are Overrated which presents a day in the life of two crumpled paper puppets as they hang out, drink beer and speak what's on their minds.
