About

K+B Backroom is pleased to announce an exhibition of limited edition silkscreen prints by Dutch artist Irene van de Mheen. Van de Mheen has exhibited extensively in mainland Europe, and this will be her second solo show at KESTER+BLES gallery in London. Van de Mheen's work deals with space and the structural design of space, addressing scale, proportion and perspective. Her drawings, objects and installations explore dimensionality and the relationship between physical space and its representation. By creating spaces within spaces and mixing various realities, Van de Mheen searches for new places and meanings. The limited editions are hand-printed by Van de Mheen on 70x100cm paper in very small series of 3 to 10 prints. The prints are based on the accumulated shapes of cut-up sheets of A5 to A1 sized paper. Apparent in all her work is the tension between the manufactured and the natural, the ideal and the imperfect. In her search for strong and true abstract forms, Van de Mheen incorporates imperfections and coincidences, which provide her conceptual work with a human imprint and a compelling natural quality.
