The Anglo Polish Society is delighted to announce that, with the generous assistance of the Polish Embassy we have been able to bring the Irena Sendler Exhibition to Bristol for a week in July.

The exhibition is open to everyone and there is no entry charge. There will be a talk on the evening of Wednesday 11th July starting at 7-30pm. There will be a nominal charge of £3 for this to cover the cost of Polish Cakes etc!

Should other organisations or groups want their own evening presentation this can be arranged via us with the curator, Antony Lishak.

In addition, there will be 8 sessions for schools aimed at children between 10 and 14 years old. The public are welcome to visit the exhibition during these sessions but are asked not to impede the children in their studies!

Irena Sendler was a Polish social worker who coordinated a rescue operation that saved hundreds of Jewish lives from the Warsaw Ghetto during World War Two. 2018 is the 10th anniversary of her death and has been designated The Year of Irena Sendler.

This 12-panel exhibition, which has been created by Holocaust education Charity Learning from the Righteous places her deeds in the historical context of the times, where in Poland under Nazi occupation, offering any assistance to Jews was punishable by death.

Learning from the Righteous is a Holocaust education charity that works with children aged 10 to 14 from a range of religious and cultural backgrounds. We focus on acts of rescue and resistance by those recognised by Yad Vashem as “Righteous Among the Nations”. We lead workshops for children and provide training to enable teachers to use our age-appropriate, fact-based materials in their schools. Children we work with are encouraged to respond to learning about the courage of those who chose to act during the Holocaust, despite the risks, by devising practical ways that they can make a positive impact on the lives of others and the world they live in.
OUR MISSION is to promote respect and mutual understanding by:
o Broadening children’s knowledge of the Holocaust in an age-appropriate way
o Using examples of “the righteous” to demonstrate our shared humanity
o Celebrating the “courage of the few” who chose not to be bystanders
o Encouraging children to devise practical ways of making a difference to the
lives of others

OUR AIMS are to:
o Provide fact-based learning resources for the 10 – 14 age group
o Support teachers with training programmes
o Engender in children an awareness that they can make a positive contribution to broader society
