Rucquoi's powerful, surrealist images of women rely on meticulous craftsmanship and artistry. They advance the tradition of portraiture towards a new symbolism derived from a particular feminine psychology. The use of imaginative language, prosthetics, costume and slang animal names used to describe women unifies both image and concept. This is the first exhibition of this award winning new body of work, a sensational mix of macabre, beauty and irreverence. The works are paradoxical; being both derogatory and complimentary, comical and yet somehow tragic.
