About
Laser cutting uses a laser beam to cut and engrave various materials, such as wood, plastic, paper, card and fabric. The laser is controlled by a computer and follows directional points (vectors) that are created within a digital design.
Over the course of three sessions, Knowle West Media Centre will introduce you to laser cutting technology and take you through some basic techniques for preparing cut-ready vector files. Each session will cover a number of useful tools within the software program Adobe Illustrator, and give you the chance to laser cut samples to take home with you.
The course is suitable for people who are new to laser cutting and looking to use the technology in creative applications. Ideal for designers, makers and hobbyists looking to try out a new technique within their own practice.
During the course you will have access to the 80W laser cutter and use of the Apple Macbook laptops at KWMC: The Factory.
Tea and coffee are provided. Price: £99.
The course runs over three evenings on 21st April, 28th April & 5th May, from 6.30-8.30pm.
