“It’s spring in the city but the trees remain barren,
challenging the concrete to bare fruit”.
“Conrad is one of the most exciting emerging artists in London, morphing images of bucolic beauty together with a disturbed dystopian vision. Hence, this promises to be one Hell of a show.”
- Jake Chapman
South London born artist Conrad Armstrong takes us on a journey ‘into the dark forest’ that is the 21st Century. He contemplates and explores our relationship with trees and nature from the perspective of a mind shaped by the industrial and synthetic metropolis of London - a city where spirituality and respect for nature are commonly disparaged and disregarded.
The show fuses sharp observation with mystery and magic told through an interwoven sensory and experiential mesh of images, lights, words, videos, sculptures, sound, installation and performance.
Conrad is a protégée of renowned British artist Maggi Hambling CBE. He is returning to Shoreditch - this time at the gallery Kachette on Old St – with an exciting body of new work for an exhibition that develops and refocuses some of the main themes of his earlier works on the urban landscape and city life.
“Conrad Armstrong combines traditional observation with contemporary vision, producing work that is poetic and tactile. ‘Into The Forest’ promises to be his most adventurous yet.”
- Maggi Hambling CBE
