An exhibition showcasing the work of studio members from Studio Upstairs, a unique and therapeutic community of artists based in Dalston.
About
Our next exhibition featuring works from our London Studio will open on 9 April 2015 at the no format Gallery in Woolwich which has been kindly donated to us.
“Into the Deep” is a series of work made and curated by our unique community of artists who have each come to the edge of their existence. Through their art they have found enough love and courage to define themselves in the world.
The exhibition is free to attend and runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 12pm – 5pm from April 10-25.
The exhibition will also include a new storytelling session from our Studio Upstairs’ Change of Frame Performance group.
This will use puppet, objects and sounds to explore issues of discrimination, exclusion and community values versus individual life experiences. There will also be a post-show discussion on the themes portrayed.
The Change of Frame group is interested in developing art without objectifying the artists as ‘other’ or becoming a spectacle themselves. Rather, paying attention to their artistic process and outcome. We are advocating Art without Adjectives.
