About

John Eaves RWA | Frank Bowling RA, OBE | Patrick Jones | John Bunker An exciting exhibition of paintings that incorporate varying elements of collage and derive from an intimate relationship with the material. They short circuit concept and fashion and encourage an engagement with the materiality of the work and the felt experience of it. Of particular interest is the fact that the work of these four painters span four decades, from 1929 to 1967; each one is represented by a particular body of work made in series, demonstrating different approaches to the painting process and using various formats and supports. In series, the works relate with one another in a continuous non-narrative flow, linked by enquiry, intuition and improvisation rather than following a logical, linear development. Curated by Nick Moore, Bristol-based painter, musician and writer, the title derives from associations such as deep, profound, personal, direct, close; all words one could use to describe the qualities of these abstract paintings. John Eaves will be in conversation with Nick Moore in the gallery at 3pm on Saturday 16th March
