About

Intersections was first presented at Sangkring Art Space in October 2014. This exhibition presents a cross-cultural exhibition series between selected Southeast Asian contemporary artists and 5 distinctive Cuban artists who have been mainly exhibited in the West.

The exhibition reveals surprising connections between Southeast Asian and Latin American culture. The juxtaposition of artworks coming from dissimilar geographic locations creates a distinctive dialogue by exploring creative cultural processes. The exhibition examines their social, cultural and political locale through utilizing the global languages and concepts of contemporary art. The project aims to reach a wide audience range by exhibiting at three locations namely Indonesia, Cuba and Singapore in 2014.

Artists include: Ahmad Zakii Anwar (Malaysia), Ashley Bickerton (USA/ Indonesia), Handiwirman Saputra (Indonesia), Jumaldi Alfi (Indonesia), Putu Sutawijaya (Indonesia), Ugo Untoro (Indonesia), Yunizar (Indonesia), Yusra Martunus (Indonesia), Adonis Flores (Cuba), Douglas Arguelles (Cuba), Ivan Capote (Cuba), Yoan Capote (Cuba), and Maykel Linares (Cuba).
