Seeking the atmosphere of historic mental health care. An exhibition of prints, drawings and 3D work by Anwyl Cooper-Willis
About
The art collective, alldaybreakfast, to which I belong, were funded to be artists-in-residence at Glenside Hospital Museum. While we were getting organised I joined the museum as a volunteer, to me it is a grippingly interesting place and I have never left.
The museum houses the story of the institution opened, in 1861, as Bristol Lunatic Asylum. The work in this exhibition derives from historic, documentary photographs in the collection of the museum, and from information distilled from the Medical Records of the hosptial now housed at Bristol Archives. Images and thoughts are translated into drawings, etchings, monotypes and three dimensional graphs.
