Surface Gallery is excited to welcome back theInternational Postcard Show. This vibrant, long-running exhibition is a highly popular feature of our calendar, and includes hundreds of original artworks from established and aspiring artists from all over the world. All submissions are included, from painting and print through to textiles and illustration, creating a wonderfully eclectic mix of artwork.
Last year theInternational Postcard Showattracted more than 300 entries from around the world. 2016 is set to be our largest postcard show to date.
All artworks will be priced at £15, so this is a fantastic opportunity for visitors and aspiring art collectors to snap up an original work of art at an affordable price.
All participating artists will have the opportunity to exchange their postcard with another artist selected at random at the end of the exhibition. We hope that this exchange will help foster new connections and encourage communication among artists from diverse backgrounds and from different parts of the world.
A panel of Surface Gallery judges will select 3 prize winners. The prizes include a £50 first prize, a Deborah Ballinger gift set as second prize, and a Dark Forge Design printed tote bag as third prize. This year we are also introducing the People’s Prize, and our visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite art. The People’s Prize will be an exhibition in the Surface Gallery’s alternative artspace, the Loovre.
During the exhibition, Paul Henegan will be delivering a print workshop, which will take place on Saturday 23rd January. The workshop will cost £25 for a full day or £15 for a half day, with an additional £2 fee for materials. On Saturday 6th February,Chiara Dellerba and Saria Digregorio will be running a book-binding and stamps workshop from 11am-5pm where you can learn how to bind your own book, create hardcovers and experiment with stamps. The workshop will cost £20, materials are included.
The International Postcard Show 2016 opens in conjunction with The Under the Bed Art Exhibition, which will take place in the project space.Gerry Henegan-Barr, a resident artist at Surface Gallery Studio, will also be exhibiting her ‘Bestial Supremacy: It’s Raining Cats Not Dogs’ in the Loovre. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
