PROGRAMME *Black and White: the other side of images — Klub Zwei 2003 / Austria / UK / 5' 00 Questioning the use and misuse of images presented as historical documents and how we may understand their meaning today. *Perfect Film — Ken Jacobs 1986 / USA / 22' 00 Jacobs was sold these discarded news rushes for the price of the reel they were on and didn't touch them at all, calling it a 'Perfect Film'. As we move through these unedited accounts on the assassination Malcolm X we see the story change and grow with its power. *Pinochet's Women — Eduardo Menz 2004 / Canada / 12' 00 An examination of the construction of public memory through the mass-media, via juxtaposing television reports created during the brutal dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile during the 1980s. - Intermission 15 minutes - *Remake — Christophe Guerin 2007 / France / 8' 00 Fragments of old Super 8mm film are superimposed to show different takings of the same scenes. The result is an impossible document combined from several states that could have been. *Journal No.1 An Artists Impression — Hito Steyerl 2007 / Germany / 21' 00 Stereyl's reconstruction of a 1947 Bosnian newsreel destroyed following the collapse of the Communist bloc. Eyewitness accounts form the basis of a storyboard depicting some of the lost film, combined with documentary images and excerpts from fiction films. *Buffalo Lifts — Christina Battle 2004 / Canada / 3' 00 Through this hand-processed and manipulated work, Battle considers the material possibilities of film to explore the act of collective rememberance and creates an act of fabrication rather than a record of reality. *Blight — John Smith 1994-96 / UK / 14' 00 Blight records changes that occurred during the building of the M11 Link Road in East London. Constructed from records of real events Blight challenges the common understanding of documentary and explores the ambiguities of reality. http://www.impressions-gallery.com/events http://cherrykino.blogspot.com/
