Intermezzo 1: Ella Hebendanz and Sjoerd Martens
About
Ella Hebendanz' artistic research floats somewhere between the cyberspace and the tangible world. Morphing virtual, material, and linguistic bodies, she creates fluid collages of moving image and performance. Her current work “Entangled bodies” represents a colourful collection of thoughts on the materiality of limits. Exploring the beautifully chaotic discourse on corporeal entanglement, she is questioning the body’s border and the border’s body.
The work of Sjoerd Martens captures and immortalizes the hidden beauty and purity of human traces inside his photographs and sculptures so that they can be experienced differently and infinitely. Martens also made for this exhibition a four-story window installation, supported by Mondriaan Fund.
"I see my work as a sculpture of our legacy. The areas I create are characterized by past human presence, current abandonedness, and future uncertainty. Consequently, the subjects are no longer taken for granted. It is thus reminiscent of archeology, but with a different purpose and an unconventional mean."
Note: only the window installation of Sjoerd Martens will be on show after June 16.
