Welsh-Canadian visual artist Alana Tyson is currently Artist-In-Residence at Ruthin Craft Centre. During time spent at Ruthin, Tyson has created a new immersive installation work Interior, which will officially open on the 22 February to the public.
It has taken Tyson several months to create Interior; a multi-sensory experience exploring the hypocrisy of the use of the phrase “it’s what’s on the inside that counts”. Tyson’s wants visitors to become cocooned completely, allowing them access inside this intimate and seductive installation work. Within the work, masses of undulating silky fabric with hand-stitched feminine folds introduce us to a private world where visitors are invited to hibernate and spend time. Tyson’s experiential encounter has more layers than what meets the eye: the walls of the structure move and seem to breathe, eerily calling up the visceral body.
Interior will be officially launched on 22 February with an open studio event. Tyson will be in residence until the 31 March 2015 and Interior is open to the public throughout the period.
