Artist Oliver Sutherland presents a temporary installation of his recent work And then …, followed by Who’s Eye, a programme of artists’ films exploring the notion of the dislocated camera

About

:including works by Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson, Riley Harmon, Harry Dodge and Stanya Kahn, and Lillian Schwartz.

And then …(installation) 12–6.30pm

Who’s Eye (screening programme) 6.30–7.30pm

And then… is an explorative moving image work situated within a real-time simulation. As an autonomous camera moves through a virtual environment the viewer is presented with narratives and sound objects that assemble and reconfigure as they pull in and out of focus. Addressing the anxieties that spawn from submerging a body within technology, the narratives never fully form; instead they are allowed to perpetually drift.

Drop in anytime (12–6.30pm) to see the installation.

Sutherland was awarded a production bursary by Spike Island and the Centre for Moving Image Research (CMIR) of the University of the West of England (UWE).

Oliver Sutherland
Working between moving image and sculpture, Oliver Sutherland’s practice examines the language of digital production, focusing on the relationship between content, tool and the user. Sutherland’s practice unpacks the tensions that occur in understanding and translating acts and objects between virtual and actual space. He was recently an associate artist as part of the Tate St Ives Artists Programme 2015, and is a recipient of the CMIR and Spike Island Moving Image Bursary 2016.
