Artist, director, costume designer & photographer for film and stage - Tim Yip is a world-renowned artist with a list of accolades that has been growing since his first art director role for A Better Tomorrow (1986).
Coining his aesthetic concept of 'New Orientalism' to the mainstream forefront, Tim Yip's work draws upon ancient cultures to reshape ideas of Orientalism. Whether that be in projects such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), the 2004 Beijing Olympics or his rendition of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring (2019) with director Yang Liping, the Academy Award-winning multi-threat leaves onlookers awe-struck through his approach to art, costume design, theatre and more.
In 2001, Tim won the Oscar for Best Art Direction, and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for Best Costume Design for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), becoming the first Chinese person to receive these accolades. Most recently, Tim announced the Love Infinity (2022) film, documenting key figures within London's art scene.
