The Library has an amazing collection of maps, from aerial photos to map art. Our earliest map appears on a coin made in the Roman Empire and our latest appears as pixels on a computer screen. In between, we have the most complete set of Ordnance Survey maps of Great Britain, maps made for kings and queens (and some amended by them too), cartoon and caricature maps, star maps, miniature maps, and an atlas that stands taller than the average person. As well as showing different perspectives on the world, maps are artworks in their own right: prints, watercolours, lithographs. They are fascinating examples of information design as well as beautiful images.
