Displaced Visions: Émigré Photographers of the 20th Century is part of an online programme of talks, events and performances organised by Insiders/Outsiders to celebrate refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe and their impact on British culture.
About
Many of the pioneers of late 19th and early 20th century photography were immigrants - people displaced by choice or, quite often, by necessity. These photographers became observers and interpreters of their new surroundings through the filters of their different cultures, languages and religions, and photography in the 20th century is deeply indebted to them. In this event, Nissan Perez, former Curator of Photography at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, talks to photographic historian and curator Colin Ford OBE about the topic of his book Displaced Visions: Émigré Photographers of the 20th Century which accompanied a major exhibition held at the Israel Museum in 2013. This event is held in association with Four Corners, London.
