About

Inside/Out: Exploring the Fetishisation of 'The Troubled Artist’

Sat 21st May, 4 - 4.45pm (FREE)

In this talk, Art critic Aindrea Emelife will explore the popularisation of the 'troubled artist' and the subsequent fetishisation of artists being on the spectrum of mental health.

Taking a historical perspective, Aindrea will start with Art Brut and the emergence of 'Outsider art' before looking at contemporary cases, particularly the media exposure on the mental health of celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Demi Lovato and Cara Delevingne, to ask: is breaking the stigma actually progressive?
