Innovate: Un/fold Northampton is a photographic exhibition organized by second year students on the BA (Hons Photographic Practice course at the University of Northampton as part of their Professional Studies programme. It is the second in a series of annual shows that has seen the students working closely with Northampton Borough Council to lead a project documenting the changing urban landscape of Northampton.
The town is in the process of undergoing rapid development, within and around the Enterprise Zone. Northampton Alive, the collective name for the Council’s regeneration projects, is ‘creating a positive economic impact for new and existing businesses, landowners and residents’.
While the development project, and the documenting of change through photography, is a long term commitment and process, this exhibition presents the town in a state of transition and regeneration. The photography project makes a significant contribution to the historical archives of buildings on the verge of destruction and/or renewal, as well as presenting a clear record of change within Northampton’s landscape.
Senior Lecturer in Photographic Practice, Kartini Leet, said: "This project promotes teamwork and entrepreneurship, and encourages students to network with local industry and communities. In its finished form, the exhibition offers a platform for students to consider their work in a public context and invites interest from local and regional audiences."
The exhibition opens to the public on Wednesday 4 March and runs until Thursday 12 March at Avenue Gallery, University of Northampton, Avenue Campus, St George's Avenue, Northampton.
