Andreea Zahiu’s art is a journey of the ‘pilgrim’ soul, a narrative of its effort to become and to come where meaning can be found and stone become more than stone, the same way that in poetry, words become more than words.
About
Andreea Zahiu’s art is a journey of the ‘pilgrim’ soul, a narrative of its effort to become and to come where meaning can be found and stone become more than stone, the same way that in poetry, words become more than words. As a foreigner living and working in Oxford she became more and more aware of the way our identity is shaped by language, geography, culture - stripping all off, what is to be found and where lies our true identity?
Andreea was trained in the ancient art of mosaic making in Italy (Ravenna) and France. She works with small pieces of natural stone, each cut individually with a hardie and a hammer. This act of cutting and its rhythmic effort has a meditative effect, bringing body and soul into dialogue, deeply interconnected.
