About
Sarah Knight and Sara Sherwood are two artists with a shared focus on light, movement, texture and form in the art they each create. Although they work individually, Sarah and Sara are mutually inspired from nature and share a love of life. Both artists have the ability to transfer these impressions and feelings onto works in various media in tranquil and joyous ways. Calm and powerful images emerge as a result of each artist's distinct style. Seeing their work side by side allows viewers a rich and immersive experience.
Sarah Knight takes inspiration from nature for all of her work. The semi-abstract landscapes are often memories of places visited as a child, or shores travelled to and wondered at. Sarah's linocut prints focus on the smaller details within the natural world: blades of grass, reeds, nettles. The lines, shapes and silhouettes create layered studies of form and structure. There is a common theme of colour and line throughout Sarah’s art in various media.
Sara Sherwood creates vibrant and expressive paintings of London, New York and other skylines revealing cities as we have never seen them before. Painting in oil on canvas she takes iconic and legendary buildings and paints them into magical cityscapes full of colour and drama. As a contemporary artist Sara paints with colours instinctively, blending with brushes and using a palette knife with intuition and spontaneity. Sara says “inspiration comes from a source far greater than me, nature and everyday moments”.
Sarah Knight will be at our gallery at Oxo Tower Wharf on Sunday 21 April to answer any questions about her work and both artists are happy to meet visitors by prior appointment. The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 6pm.
