inkubator : An Exhibition of Artists' Books, Prints & Multiples

About

Curated by artist David Faithfull, Inkubator is an extraordinary exhibition of works by a variety of national and international artists, bookmakers and printmakers, including Frans Baake, Imi Maufe, Otto Dettmer, Wiebke Loeper, Lyndsay Mann and Miranda Schofield.

This exhibition aims to broaden the exposure of Artists' Books and Multiples in Scotland, celebrating the diversity of this engaging format by offering a range of reading experiences across three gallery spaces that are intimate, provocative and candid.

The works in this exhibition will be presented in an accessible and interactive way, intensifying and personalising the visitors' engagement with the work.

There are three themed corner areas in Gallery 2, entitled Study, Log Cabin and Landscape. These corners include site specific, handmade conceptual wallpaper, floor coverings and chairs, which all create a particular mood or ambience, offering the visitor a chance to relax in the space and handle the Artists' Books directly.

Study, includes wallpaper specifically created by Nicola Murray of genetically mutated allotment plants and vegetables in the style of William Morris. In Log Cabin, David Faithfull has created wallpaper of oak leaf forms exploring mythological ideas of the forest and wilderness. Landscape presents the Artist's Book TideEdit2, a collaboration between David Faithfull and the writer Giles Sutherland and also contains wallpaper interpreting specific locations on the Isle of Mull.

Throughout the gallery spaces there is an eclectic and fascinating collection of Artists' Books supplied by the invited artists, some of which are available for sale in the Arcade shop housed in Gallery 1. Stock for sale in the shop includes the wallpapers and some of the Artists' Books from the exhibition, including pieces by Chris Taylor and David Bellingham. There will be a catalogue available including an essay by Neil Cameron incorporating limited edition artworks by three of the artists including a piece by Lyndsay Mann.
