About

Indigo Dye Workshop

Elsey’s Gallery, May 16th 10am-5pm

Learn to create and experiment with indigo dye bath.  First-come basis, 1-2 hour drop-in sessions, all supplies provided,  £10 (wear painting clothes).  Silk scarves and tees available for purchase.

Indigo is the most important ancient dye.  It is the only natural blue dye used by many cultures on every continent.  The nature of how indigo adheres to natural material is unique.  When material soaked in indigo is oxygenated, you can physically observe the color change from a yellow-green to a super blue right before your eyes.  Indigo dying is the combination of science and art that is just magical.  The results of experimenting with indigo develop in such an amazing way that even inexperienced dyers can create something exciting.

In conjunction with The Bury Art Trail, The Bury Festival, The Suffolk Festival of Ideas and the ArtWear exhibition.
