Incubator 21

Taking place from 6 October - 15 November 2021 at A. Society, 2 Chiltern Street, London W1, the artists featured are Hawazin Alotaibi, Richard Burton, Charlie Gosling, Nathalie Hollis, Anne Carney Raines, and Nick Sanderson. Not Here (2021), an immersive sound installation by Angelica Jopling and sound artist Noah Berrie, concludes the project.

‘Incubator 21’ arose as a response to the growing need for emerging artists to articulate their vision through individualised exhibitions. Nascent artists rarely get the opportunity to exhibit their work in a solo capacity and in a dedicated space. ‘Incubator 21’ will do just that. As a youth-led exhibition programme, ‘Incubator 21’ aims to unify disparate practices and voices from the same generation, which, we hope, will reflect the energy and culture of London in this post-pandemic moment.

A. Society, the shopfront space owned by hotelier André Balazs, is a space where we hope to create a locus of connection and exchange, as well as celebrate unmitigated personal expression. We envision ‘Incubator 21’ as the brick-and-mortar antidote to the hangover of forced-isolation and virtual-substitution. Our aims are to:

• unify the nascent art community in London by celebrating its heterogeneity in a singularly dedicated space. 

• present fast-paced montages that inspire slow traversing. 

• foster a community by hosting regular exhibition openings, which will occur every Wednesday evening during the series run from 5:30-7:30pm, starting on Wednesday 6 October.
