Incomers and Insiders: encounters with Combe Martin and North Devon

North Devon Artist Residency, in association with Bay View gallery, Studio Kind and Bobinska Brownlee gallery, are delighted to present Incomers and Insiders, an exhibition of twenty artists spanning painting, drawing, film, sculpture and mixed media.

 North Devon Artist Residency was founded by Monika Bobinska and Barbara Brownlee in 2018, with the aim of creating an exciting body of contemporary art works inspired by and responding to the north Devon village of Combe Martin and its environs.

Participating artists have spent a month in our Combe Martin cottage, and have travelled from the UK, USA, Norway and Korea. Their encounter with north Devon has spanned photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, music video, sound and film.

Their subject matter has featured the stunning landscapes and seascapes of the region, as well as the idiosyncrasies of the village (known for its uniquely long high street and for the Earl of Rhone festival), the iconography of British tourism and a project which took place in the depths of a Combe Martin silver mine.

We are delighted to present the work of these 'Incomers' alongside 'Insiders', North Devon artists invited by Bay View Gallery (Combe Martin) and Studio Kind (Braunton) in a collaboration which presents a fascinating variety of views of one of the most interesting and beautiful places in the country.

Insiders include Christine Basil, John Eschle, Damien Hirst, Rob Schubert, Ken Williams, Vivian Wright (Bay View gallery) and Stuart Edmundson, Laura Porter, Sue Rossiter, Geoff Stainthorp, Alan Stewart, Peter Stiles (Studio KIND).
