Ina Wudtke takes the centenary of the German November Revolution as an opportunity to foreground artistic methods of workers’ culture. She focuses particularly on proletarian women writers of the Weimar Republic and the Afro-American working-class music culture of swing and blues.

About

The foundation of Wudtke’s analysis is the collaborative work of Bertolt Brecht and Margarete Steffin, who worked closely together after meeting at a theatre class in the Marxist Worker’s School in Neukölln – Steffin later translated Brecht’s writing into “worker’s German.” Ina Wudtke also addresses actionist protests by workers against the housing shortages of the time and relates them performatively to the gentrification underway in Berlin today.
