In The Making Since A Hundred of Years’ is the second solo show this year by the artist and includes a series of vividly imagined drawings, reinterpretations of characters Thompson researched during the pandemic and has remade using his ‘memory and imagination.’  A publication also accompanies the exhibition, featuring all of Leslie’s chosen superheroes, and is available to purchase from the gallery.  

Leslie Thompson has a highly developed drawing style, depicting scenes from popular culture and often referencing memories from film, music and TV. He has been attending award-winning studio Venture Arts for over 20 years and exemplifies the charity’s mission to shape a new cultural landscape where learning disabled people can realise their potential as artists, curators and critics. His work has been acquired by the Government Art Collection and he has exhibited widely across the UK and in Tokyo.

In Leslie’s words:

“In the making since a hundred of years, the dark black comic books was made and they are good heroes in the cartoon. They are fantastic in comics in animation in the 1930’s 40’s 50’s 60’s 70’s tracking down crime all over America and across the world and out of this earth. 

 "It is a story about these black African American characters in these comics since a hundred years of entertaining. It is exciting to see all these new cape crusaders in the early period of all history. Could be in the record books soon. Good news. It’s fabulous and good creating this picture on the drawing paper. “
