Haroon Mirza's in the epoch of waves is a multi-sensory presentation that reveals relationships between technology, nature, the human condition, and the universe.
About
His multi-layered cycle of works, The Wave Epoch - consisting of video, music, and performance - is complemented by self-powering and autonomous works of art, employing light, photovoltaic panels, electrical signals, and complex circuitry. The central installation, The Wave Epoch, incorporates references from club culture, future archaeology, belief systems, and social rituals, and was created as a collaboration between Haroon Mirza and Jack Jelfs with musicians GAIKA and Elijha as part of the Collide Residency at the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN in Geneva. The immersive cycle of works creates a fictional scenario into the future in which the Large Hadron Collidor particle accelerator and CERN are long gone and rediscovered by a future civilization. How perceptions of such purpose-built places change over time and how spaces can undergo new appropriation and use is the focus of their artistic questions. Based on this scenario, The Wave Epoch is an audiovisual sci-fi exploration of truth and belief, matter and consciousness, ritual and practice, and of the human quest to find patterns and order amidst the endlessly shifting realities of experience.
