Join our guided dovecote walk in Nottinghamshire with artist duo FRAUD
About
Join artist duo FRAUD (Audrey Samson and Francisco Gallardo) and their collaborator, farmer Stuart Rose, for a coach tour and guided walk in rural Nottinghamshire, with visits to a series of historic dovecotes and the open-field farming system at Laxton.
As international food production chains fissure and soil quality diminishes, FRAUD seek to question the inevitability of this predicament and explore ways of cultivating 'otherwise'. The artists will explore a genealogy of fertilising practices and discuss ways in which we might 'stay with the fallows'. The day will be rounded off with a drink and savoury snacks at The Dovecote Inn, Laxton (included in ticket price).
A dovecote is a structure intended to house pigeons or doves. They can be freestanding or part of a barn or building.
Find out more about the history of dovecotes.
Find out more about Laxton's open-field farming system.
A collection of resources which offer some context and critical thought on the issues we will be exploring on the day will be made available in advance of the event.
Attendees should bring a packed lunch.
Transport
Coach transport is provided at no extra cost from Loughborough University, and the coach journey forms part of the event. The coach will depart from outside the Wolfson Cafe on the corner of University Road and Ashby Way at 9.45am and return by 6pm. Please note that Ashby Way is erroneously labelled as 'University Road' on Google Maps. The official campus map is correctly labelled, and shows the cafe.
If you are travelling to campus by car you will be able to park for free in Car Park 1. Please enter campus via Epinal Way, say you have been instructed to park in Car Park 1 for an event, and ask for a Visitor Pass.
If you are travelling by public transport, take the Sprint Bus from Loughborough railway station or town centre and alight at Mechanical Engineering. Buses leave the railway station at 9.00 and 9.20, Ashby Square at 9.07 and 9.27, arriving at 9.19 and 9.39.
If you would like to join us but can’t get to Loughborough for the coach, please contact Radar’s Producer Laura Purseglove at l.purseglove@lboro.ac.uk.
Accessibility
Flintham dovecote has step-free access, but we regret that Sibthorpe dovecote does not.
We will be inviting attendees to join the artists in walking from Flintham to Sibthorpe. However anyone who wishes to is welcome to travel between the two dovecotes on the coach. The walk is on flat but uneven ground and will take approximately 40 minutes.
The walk around Laxton is on flat but uneven ground.
If you are a wheelchair user and would like to join us, please contact Laura Purseglove (l.purseglove@lboro.ac.uk).
