Media Art Bath is excited to welcome artist, Lindsay Seers and curator, Paul O'Neill to THE MAB FILM EXERCISE. Paul O'Neill is a curator, writer and lecturer and is the GWR Research Fellow, Situations, Bristol. Lindsay Seers recently won the Jarman Award (2009) and is well respected for her work, which has recently been shown in the Tate Triennial and at Matt's Gallery, London (both 2009).
Known for its ghostly meta-fictions of self- and object-machines, Lindsay Seers' work explores a relationship between time, memory, place and objects in which the usual order and operation of things has become curiously disturbed. Paul O'Neill will introduce a selection of films by Seers, and talk with the artist about the significance of the time-image, duration and meta-fiction in her work, and the importance of the curator-artist relationship.
Lindsay Seers is the winner of the 2009 Jarman Award. She has recently shown in group shows such as Altermodern, 4th Tate Triennial, Tate Britain (2009). Recent solo exhibitions include: It has to be this way, Matts Gallery, London (2009); Swallowing Black Maria, Smart Project Space, Amsterdam (2007); Human Camera, Mali Salon, Rijeka, Croatia and The truth was always there, The Collection, Lincoln (both 2006).
THE MAB FILM EXERCISE provides an important forum for peer-led reflection, support and critique in the South West. By inviting curators to present a programme of artists' film, THE MAB FILM EXERCISE seeks to address both the diverse potential for artists' film as a form and a sense of the current urgency, social or political timeliness in the work (of both curator and artist).
THE MAB FILM EXERCISE is produced and presented by Media Art Bath championing contemporary art and ideas through the development of bold new work.
